Sensory World!

We homeschool. We've used a variety of curriculums. Dd is just starting to read, but she is difficult to motivate, difficult to stay on task and gets frustrated easily and has meltdowns. She does love math though. How about any of you? Does anyone homeschool? I'd love to hear teaching ideas that have worked for you, curriculum, links, and so on. If you are a teacher, I'd love to also hear what works for you.

I homeschool my three children. My youngest son is currently 7 years old. He has Aspergers and exibits the same issues you are describing in your daughter. I am looking into trying some sort of online learning for him. Perhaps "Switched On Schoolhouse", which my friend is checking out from her church library for me to try. Another one that I hear really good things about is www.time4learning.com. I would love to use that one with my son. However my husband has said, "no" to that for now. I pray that you are able to find help for your daughter very soon. I know this can seem a very lonly road to be walking. Especially when you add the fact that we homeschool to the equation.

We've been homeschooling our daughter, 8, for almost a whole school year now. She has SPD, but the primary manifestation is sever tactile defensiveness. Because getting clothes on her was so difficult, we decided homeschooling would be best. I can tell you that the first 6 months were hell! lol! I tried to go it alone w/an eclectic curriculum. That worked for maybe a month! It quickly became evident that dd could not handle putting pen to paper. I am a very natural minded person and was very against her doing an online curriculum. However, as a last resort, we tried time4learning. I have to tell you it was the best decision I ever made for numerous reasons! It's fun, on par with state requirements, you can go above or below your grade level, there is a community forum that is very helpful, there are lots of moms there w/kids who have special needs, they also have great customer service.

Check it out and see what you think. Let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you decide you want to sign up, please let me know b/c I'll get a month free if you use my code.

I hope this helps!

We have been homeschooling for about 6 years. I have used lots of different curriculums. I would really love to try Time4Learning but my hubby said that it is just too expensive. Especially since I would want to use it for all 3 of my children. My best friend's church library has Alpha Omega's Switched On Schoolhouse. They have grades 3rd thru 8th. I am going to try that with my kids. The best part is that this option is FREE!

we tried time for learning awhile ago. I wish that we could afford it too. It costs a lot. If it was 15 or 10 I think that I'd be more inclined to use it. Dd is doing much better with reading and has begun to sound things out! The computer is a big motivator for her. We've been using incentives for getting schoolwork done and she has been doing much better. Nice to hear what works for all of you!

I wonder if you're thinking of the same program? It's $15/month! We couldn't afford it if it were more.

I'm glad she's doing better. I think there are just bumps in the road here and there. I always tell myself that it will pass eventually! I'm the one who's not doing well right now. I'm having a hard time staying motivated. lol!

mmm, I just checked their site and it says it is 19.95. Do you get a discount somehow? https://www.time4learning.com/Alpha/Signup_Parent_Information.aspx

I must have gotten in on a cheaper rate when I signed up. Sorry! I also have a couple of friends who signed up and you get free months for that. Plus if you blog about your experience, good or bad, you will get a check as well.

Anyway, there are plenty of curriculums to choose from. Who knows, next year I may use something completely different! Especially as my child changes. I guess I'm a kind of "go with the flow" parent.

Just curious, how much of a check do you get for blogging about it? Enough to convince my hubby that this would be worth the cost for us???

$25 I believe. You also get $25 for each person you refer. So if you reach a few blogging, it might pay for itself for a while. The good thing is that it is month to month. If it doesn't work for you, there is no long term contract. I like that.

I'm not just telling you how good it is to get a free month. I *really* love it! I can't tell you how much it has taken pressure off of me in numerous ways. I love that my daughter can work at her own pace and I always know she's getting what she needs as far as state requirements.

Anyway, if you want to do it, I really hope your hubby will get on board.
