Sensory World!

Over the past couple of months Ashley's fear of things are increasing. She has never been afraid of the dark and about 6 months ago she needed a nitelight to sleep at night. And now she won't go to her room if the hall light is off or won't go into the bathrrom and turn the light on (and there is a nightlight on in there) Other things are getting worse but we start OT today so is this a senory issue or just a phase with her age (she is almost 6)

It could be a combo of both! Over the course of my daughters six short years, she has gotten worse with some things and better with others. Also 'phases' of kids also come into play, which is probably the new found fear of the dark. OT is GREAT! We had such a wonderful experience with it. It will help you understand her more and help you to help her. Good luck! :)

Thanks!!! Its just so weird for her to be scared of the dark; this was someone who would play hide n seek in dark closets.

I have mild autisim and I am very much the same way. I have intense claustrophobia so maybe she does to. Sometimes in the dark my mind plays tricks on me and I see or hear things that aren't there so maybe that happens with her as well. I don't know for sure so she may be able to get over those fears with OT. I never had the chance to go to OT for my fears and I'm twenty one now and it's to late for me to start so I have to live with them. I hope your daughter finds relief in OT and can face her fears. I hope this helps you out...
