My daughter is on the spectrum and she did this but she stimmed like crazy while she was doing it. This little boy seems relaxed and well in his world. Katy's behaviors and style of playing with her toys lacked purpose and meaning, if that makes sense. She never played with toys appropriately and she continued to play with toys made for 1-2 yr old kids well into her Kindergarten year. However, she is now in second grade. Those behaviors have diminished and although she lacks in some areas, she is reading 144 words of 144 at the beginning of the year when they only require her to read 40 at the beginning and 90 at the end. She is an amazing decoder and reader but her cognitive skills need help.

If you are uncertain or see more ASD behaviors in your son get an evaluation. Don't wait around - the window will close the longer you wait.

Best of luck to you.

I think a lot of kids do this that do not have a disorder.

I used to do this when I was a kid!! A LOT!!!

What would it mean to a 40 year now with past characteristics like that?

That looks just like something that my son used to do when he was younger and "all about" cars. My son has been diagnosed with Aspergers.

Both my boys did this. My younger son does have SPD, but my older son is grown now, super smart, great grades in high school and college, super creative musician and writer and does not have any traits--AT ALL. My younger son had a teacher that insisted he needed a full time aide because he like to build tall buildings with his legos.

I know it's scary hearing so many things that your child might do that SOME kids with autism do, but try not to worry. Be mindful, but try not to worry. He may just like order. This will probably soon be replaced with dressing up like superheros. Autism experts will always caution teachers that "all kids do some of these things some of the times." I wish they would tell parents this more often too.
